Class of 1970

MacArthur Cup Award

The Class of 1970 is proud and honored to have established the MacArthur Cup Award for Ath- letics. Our beloved classmate Lynn Moore, captain of the Black Knights' 1969 Army football team, was the heart and soul of this Award. It is a part of his legacy and a tribute to his vision and devotion to our Class and the Academy.

The MacArthur Cup is annually awarded to the intercollegiate team with the best on-and-off-field performance of the year as selected by the Black Knights Committee of Army West Point Athletics. The Award consists of $10,000 presented to the winning team's “Friends of” organization, a perpetual large trophy with the name plate of the award winner, a smaller trophy for the winning team, a coach's plaque, and commemorative coins which are presented to all the team members. The perpetual trophy and other items such as memorabilia from the current winning team are displayed in a dedicated trophy case which is currently located in the Army Sports Hall of Fame area of the Kimsey Center.

The purpose and ongoing mission of the Award is to promote a winning ethos at the United States Military Academy by recognizing and rewarding excellence in team athletics — a key element of Cadet development, integrity, and team success. The MacArthur Cup Award has thus far been presented to several outstanding teams — men's Rugby (twice), women's Basketball, Football, and men's Lacrosse.

The Class of 1970 wishes to thank our Class members, Army West Point Athletics, and the coaches and staff who have pulled together to make the MacArthur Cup a continuing tradition of rewarding excellence in Army athletics.
